SideWall Tyre Marking : Understand The Number & Codes

Tyre Marking | Tayar Mark

Tyre Marking

Tyre Width | Tayar Lebar

Tyre Width | Tayar LebarTyre width 195 is measured in millimeter (mm) and for the vast majority of car tyres always ends with the number 5.

Tyre width is important as it can affect both your car’s performance and how economical it is with fuel. The amount of rubber that is in contact with the road (called the contact patch) impacts your tyres grip and rolling resistance. The larger the contact patch, the greater the grip but the higher the rolling resistance, resulting in lower fuel economy.

Tyre Height | Tayar Tinggi

Tyre Height | Tayar TinggiTyre height (55%) this percentage is the ratio of the height of the sidewall and the tire width, or the thickness of the sidewall, by the
percentage of the width. The higher the ratio (percentage), the higher the tire sidewall, bringing more comfort on the road.

E.g : 205 mm X 55% = 112.75 mm (Side Wall Height)
E.g : 195 mm X 55% = 107.25 mm (Side Wall Height)
E.g : 165 mm X 65% = 107.25 mm (Side Wall Height)
E.g : 155 mm X 70% = 108.50 mm (Side Wall Height)

Rim Diameter | Rim Size

Rim Diameter | Rim Size

Rim diameter 16 inch is the size of the metal wheel rim that fits in the centre of the tyre. The majority of car wheels are measured in whole inches and range from 12” to 22”.

Larger diameter tyres are preferable for high performance vehicles as the tread has less curvature, creating a larger contact patch and increased grip. Like low profile tyres, large diameter tyres and rims are now fitted onto most modern cars more for aesthetic than performance reasons.

Load Index | Indeks Beban

Load Index 87 it is the maximum weight limit that a tyre can carry. It is represented by a two digit or three digit numbers.
For example, if the load index given on the tyre is 87, then it depicts that the tyre is capable of carrying a maximum load of 545 kg.

* I will show more detail about Load Index Below *

Speed Rating | Penilaian Kelajuan

Speed Rating | Penilaian Kelajuan
Speed Rating "V" It is the maximum speed that the car can maintain with the given tyres and is denoted by English Alphabets. For example, if a tyre has got a “V” rating then it can reach a maximum speed of 240km/h.

* I will show the table about Speed Rating Below *

Date of Manufacturer | Tarikh Pengilang

Date of Manufacture tyre is the most people ask and search in Malaysia. The date your tyres were made will be on the sidewall in the form of four numbers usually preceded by the letters DOT. These numbers represent the week number and year, so 3417 will be week 34, year 2017.

E.g : 3716 = week 37, year 2016

 Eg : 3819 = week 38, year 2019

Eg : 0919 = week 09, year 2019

You should replace your tyres if your tyres are older than 5 years old, you should keep a close eye on their condition and consider replacing them.
